Department of Pathology
The department also has a Laboratory Technician’s Diploma course of 24 months. Where 100 students are given, complete practical and theoretical training. Inspite of being equipped with bare necessities for UG and PG teaching initially, the faculty members continuously strived to do the research and regularly published their work in journals of national and international repute like American Journal of Gastroenterology, ACTA Cytologica and Indian Joiurnal Of Pathology & Microbiology etc . Dr. Vatsala Misra has been President of IAPM and Editor of IJPM and has been awarded the prestigious NAMS fellowship. Dr. Kachnar Varma was also awarded the prestigious NAMS membership and has been an invited as Faculty in National and State Conferences. Dr. Anshul and Dr. Varsha has presented papers in National and State Conferences like presentation for the prestigious K.C.Basu Malik award.
The legacy of senior members is still continued in the department where faculty members and postgraduates are constantly involved in research and publication. Faculty members have won several awards, are reviewers and on the editorial board of various national and international journals and members and office bearers of various academic bodies. The Faculty of the department is actively engaged in teaching, research and scientific publication with good interaction with postgraduates. Postgraduates are encouraged to regularly attend various conferences, CMEs, workshops and scientific updates and present and publish their work at various forums apart from regular seminars, symposias, journal clubs and slide seminars in the department.
The various sections in the department are Histopathology, Cytopathology, Hematology, Biochemical and Clinical Pathology.
In the last few years, the department has acquired many new equipments in addition to already existing facilities for investigations. Facilities for recent techniques like Immunohistochemistry, immunocytochemistry, immunofluorescent staining and Liquid Based Cytology (LBC) which is the gold standard for cervical cancer screening are also established along with the facility of frozen section, squash and scrape cytology for rapid diagnosis. We now have the latest equipments for hormonal assay and cancer markers by the immunoassay method. Histology and Cytology sections have also acquired latest equipments for microwave processing, frozen sections, automatic embedding and computerized staining. Biochemical and Clinical pathology laboratory at S.R.N. Hopsital is working 24 hrs and is equipped with all the new equipments including random access biochemistry analyser, five part CBC analyzer and HPLC equipments for assessment of glycosylated Haemoglobin and other haemoglobinopathies. The number of investigations done in the department has increased many folds since its inception. The clinical pathology laboratory is also NABL (Natioinal Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories) accredited.
Under the able guidance of our senior faculties the
S.R.N. Blood Bank expanded and flourished and is now established as the Department of Tranfusion Medicine under the leadership of Associate Professor Dr. Ravi Rani with 3 post graduate seats introduced since the session 2021.
We try our best to maintain an atmosphere of academic excellence and also encourage our alumni who are now placed all over the world in various responsibilities, to maintain a sense of belonging and love for the department that has enabled each one to grow into a complete human being and impart not just knowledge but pride and patriotism to the country that we cherish.
