Moti Lal Nehru Medical College At a Glance
The Medical College at Prayagraj, dedicated to the memory of Pandit Moti Lal Nehru is an outcome of a dream. He had nurtured a strong desire to have a medical college at Allahabad to serve the ailing and needy people with ethical and specialized care. Although Panditji made all e orts to get a medical college opened at Allahabad but his dream was realized in 1961 [on birth century] The foundation stone of the most awaited college was laid by Hon’ble rst President of the Republic of India, Dr Rajendra Prasad on 5th May 1961. The college was named after renowned freedom ghter of the country as Moti Lal Nehru Medical College. On the same day inaugural ceremony of Swaroop Rani Nehru Hospital the main teaching hospital was performed Meanwhile the college come into existence mainly due to untiring e orts of Sri Chandra Bhanu Gupta, then Chief Minister of Uttar-Pradesh.
ACADEMICS HISTORY AT A GLANCE
16th May 1961– Professor Pritam Das was appointed as rst Principal Medical College.
22nd June 1961- A pre-medical test was conducted.
1st August 1961– First batch of 50 students were admitted for UG course.
18th August1 961– First lecture was delivered by Prof Pritam Das.
Then, after a period of Ardh-Kumbh i.e six years, UG students‘ admission was increased from 50 to 100, in 1967.
- PGs (MD & MS] courses in various subject were started in 1967.
- Diploma courses in concerned discipline were started in 1968.
- UG students’ admission was increased from 100 to 150, in 2013.
- UG students‘ admission was increased from 150 to 200, in 2019.
- PGs (MD & MS] admission were increased to 167 in 2023.
- DM (Gastrroenterology) was started in 2010.
- DM admissions were increased to 8 (4 seats in Gastrroenterology & 4 seats in Neurology)
- MEDICAL RESEARCH UNIT (MRU)– Permission was granted for the establishment of MRU in March 2022.
